I was on the bus to Vivo when 2 gals n a guy were chatting rather loudly about how the 2 gals don't eat alone.
They mentioned how there's a certain stigma about girls eating alone while guys have no such problems, and how they do all they can to avoid eating alone, or at the very least don't let others notice they're eating alone.
I too think it's rather pathetic to eat alone, not because of all the bullshit social stigma and whatsoever, it's simply because it's such a lonely thing to do.
Even so, I eat alone rather often, but I know several girls who prefers not to do so, and some who would rather die than do so.
I had not thought over this issue before, but after thinking it over, I guess I won't feel as bad eating alone from now on. Apparently many others out there are terrified of eating alone, for fear of some imagined perception of strangers.
Unlike the 2 girls, I actually know that I am insignificant, especially in a crowded place like the canteen. No one actually cares if u r eating alone, eating your books, or eating while balanced upside down.
In fact there was a case of someone who died on the train without anyone realising after several hours.
Point is, I think no one should think so highly of themselves and always imagining others to be looking and judging them, and hence do or refrain from doing things for fear of the so called "stigma".
Inspired by this conversation, I went to watch a movie alone for the 1st time in my life that day!
Watching a movie is a mostly private and personal thing, because most people have different thoughts even though they are watching the same thing, unless it's a brainless comedy, in that case the more the merrier.
So actually watching a movie alone is more understandable than eating alone, but I have not done it before. I realise it may be less fun when there's no friends around to laugh with you, or share your feelings of the movie afterwards, but at the same time, there's much more freedom involved. You can laugh and cry and yawn without a care because no one in the cinema knows you anyway.
So what if the ticketing staff, the one sitting next to you and whoever may think to themselves, "what a lonely person to watch a movie alone"?
It's not like it matters, because they're strangers, and you are probably not gonna meet them in the future ever again.
Actually, more likely they won't care or notice you, darling.
It's getting so hard to arrange appointments, gatherings and whatnots, because everyone's so busy and their interests so different, I guess perhaps I can watch more movies alone from now on.

Actually, I eat alone for practically all my meals. I do most things alone too. Hmm, I don't actually have any issues with it, cos like you said, nobody actually notices me either. (with the exception of some weirdos, hahaha)
I have no qualms watching movies/eating alone either. :D Even if people do notice you and judge you, well, like you said, who cares?!
Ahaha...thats why i love my friends XD
